Abstract:
Artificial Intelligence and data-driven technologies more generally provide great potential for better government and policy-making. But governments have struggled to realise the promise of earlier digital technologies. Helen Margetts set up the Public Policy Programme at the Alan Turing Institute for Data Science and AI to develop data-driven technologies and methodologies from a public sector perspective. The talk will present some examples of how the Programme has helped policymakers to tackle policy problems with AI, data science and computational social science, and will discuss how science and innovation might progress synergistically.
