Research Seminar with PhD Alumni on Social Media for Management Academics

by Thomas Roulet, HEC PhD 2014, senior lecturer at  University of Cambridge, Judge Business School and  ranked 5th in the Thinklist of most influencing academics in social media published by BathCBOS.

In this discussion, he convinced us that it is still time to jump on the bandwagon and join the growing community of academics on social media. Yes, it might yet be again a new source of procrastination for academics, and it's hard to find time for a new activity beyond our busy research and teaching agendas, but it's never too late to give it a try. Focusing on Twitter but also touching on other social media, he explained the various benefits of doing so (e.g. social media to publicise your work, to build your network, to engage a broader public) but also how to maximise those benefits.

3  keys for building a network on Social Media:

1. Follow people in your field, prof. associations, academic journals AND follow their followers
2. Connect w/ people you know in real life
3. If you follow someone, they will often follow you back

This seminar was organised by HEC S&O Center
