Special PhD Fellowship in the Economics and Decision Sciences - Call for applications
"Economic Impact of Entrepreneurship Training"
HEC Paris invites applications for a Special PhD Fellowship in the Economics and Decision Sciences Department. The Special Fellowship is aimed at stimulating ground-breaking academic research investigating the economic impact of entrepreneurship training.
The Project
You will be working in a research group led by Professor Thomas Åstebro. The research group consists of a number of scientists across several countries who want to enhance sustainable development, reduce poverty and increase employment opportunities both in developing countries and for disenfranchised individuals in developed countries by new entrepreneurship training.
The Research Group
Professor Åstebro and his research group are working on testing new training concepts built on ideas developed by psychologists using large-scale field experiments.The group is currently involved in testing some of these concepts in Ecuador in collaboration with the World Bank, University of Warwick, Ecole Polytechnique, Kassel University and the Department of Education in Ecuador. The team is planning further field experiments in France, Moldova, and Egypt.
The group consists of econometricians, psychologists, development economists, and educational specialists.
Your Contribution
Your contribution to the group would be in an area of economics and decision sciences. Potential contributions could be in development economics, decision sciences, field experiments, econometrics/statistics of experiments or in a cross-discipline approach depending on skills and interests. The PhD typically takes 4-5 years to complete. In addition to taking courses, you should expect to spend extended time in the field. Foreign language and good social skills are useful for fieldwork.
Career
After a successful doctorate, you will have excellent chances for a scientific career at top Universities. Professor Åstebro has placed his PhD students at the University of Oxford, IE Business School, NBER/MIT, Bocconi, and Northeastern University.
The Fellowship
This Special Fellowship awards 10.000 euros annually in addition to the HEC Foundation PhD Research Fellow scholarship of 20.000 euros for a period of up to five years.
