Huan Tang
Assistant Professor, London School of Economics (UK)
If you ask me the best decisions I made in life, it is to pursue a PhD degree. If I can pick two, joining the finance PhD program at HEC Paris is the other winner.
The finance department at HEC Paris provides the most nurturing and supportive environment a PhD student can expect. In my opinion, this is the key to success for a PhD program. Despite having a small PhD program, the finance department has been consistently placing students at top schools.
I myself benefited tremendously from the interactions with the faculty team, including my supervisors Johan Hombert and Denis Gromb. Their broad knowledge, vast experience, intellectual curiosity, open-mindedness, and devotion to students motivated me throughout all five years of my PhD. Most importantly, their doors are always open. Frequent meetings with the faculty, either informal or formal, played an instrumental role in shaping my research.
Besides the support from the faculty, the unique culture of the department also fosters a close community among peer PhD students as well as past graduates. For a journey as challenging as the PhD study, this friendly community boosted my well-being to the largest extent possible.
