Yin Wang

Assistant Professor, Singapore Management University

Accounting and Management Control, Class of 2018

PhD Yin Wang

PhD training is a challenging but pleasant experience. Enjoy it!

HEC Paris is a renowned business school in the world. Such great reputation and prestige are reflected in its excellent research and teaching. Thanks to its high-profile faculty members, HEC Paris has the advantage to invest in its PhD program among others with deep knowledge and precious resources. Thus, the achievement of HEC PhD Program is remarkable with many job placements in the top universities around the world.

The HEC PhD Program offered to me a systematic training in doing research: starting from generating good ideas, searching for the appropriate methodology and data, to finally providing new evidence to contribute to the extant literature. Furthermore, faculty members are also willing to help and to work with PhD students. Such a constructive environment and its diversity helped me conduct my research project and those in collaboration with faculty members. Moreover, HEC provides students with plenty of research resources and opportunities to present their research papers at top-level conferences and job market events. All of those are crucial for a PhD student to succeed.

What I found at HEC:
-    A solid fundamental training in research methodology and basic knowledge of research topics are the key to high quality research. PhD students are encouraged to take courses in the first two years of the program. This phase of study is crucial to the future research in later stage.
-    Learn and work with faculty members. Those are the precious opportunities where PhD students can acquire the hands-on practice and in-depth knowledge of a specific skill and research topic.
-    A “Visiting Scholar” experience in other top universities is an advantage. It helps explore different types of research and discover the state of the art in many specific research areas.
-    International exposure in the high-level conferences helps PhD students increase their visibility in the field and build their own reputation.
