MAZARS
Research Chairs
Chair holder: Luc Paugam, Professeur associé de comptabilité et contrôle de gestion
The Mazars-HEC Paris "Purpose Governance" Chair aims to meet the challenges of climate change, work for the common good and better understand how decisions are made and how we can support more effective corporate governance.
The aim of this three-year partnership is to support companies and consulting and auditing firms in their transformation. The Chair, which is part of the Purpose Centre of the Society & Organizations Institute (S&O) at HEC Paris, is headed by Luc Paugam, Associate Professor of Accounting and Management Control at HEC Paris.
This collaboration is the first corporate chair to be hosted by the HEC Paris S&O Institute's Centre Purpose. It will enrich the work of the latter, which has historically focused on the issue of purposeful leadership.
It will result in the writing of a case study on key performance indicators and non-financial reporting frameworks, as well as research articles on ESG reporting (ESG ratings, investment decision-making, ESG performance indicators).
To this end, Mazars will provide academic support at various levels. Mazars is supporting the creation and launch of the "Strategy for Impact Certificate - Repurposing Business for a Greater Good", the aim of which will be to revisit corporate management from the angle of "conscious management", and to encourage students to consider the levers that can be used to rethink the business world and have a positive impact. These levers may be legal, strategic, financial, accounting, human or governance-related.
Mazars will also be involved in the "Purposeful Leadership" program, and will interact with the 400 L3 students with testimonials from employees during the back-to-school course. Mazars will also be working with students in the Strategic Management and SASI masters programs, proposing one "Business Project" per year, i.e. a case study based on a key issue for the company's development, to which the students must contribute strategic analysis and innovative solutions.
"We are delighted with this partnership, which reinforces our long-standing relationship with HEC Paris through our commitment to sustainable development issues. At a time when companies are transforming their decision-making processes to include their extra-financial performance, it is more important than ever to support them in this area, which concerns us all." Virginie Chauvin, Partner and member of the Executive Committee of Mazars in France, responsible for the Sustainability offering.
"By focusing on the transformation of companies and consulting firms, the 'Purposeful Governance' Chair not only aligns the values we have in common, but makes them a reality." Eloïc Peyrache, Dean and Managing Director of HEC Paris
"We are very grateful to Mazars for committing itself to our side to contribute its expertise and strengthen HEC Paris' impact on the training of future leaders and the transformation of organizations." Olivier Sevillia, President of the HEC Foundation
