Biography
Daniel Bernard, Honorary Affiliate Professor, HEC 1969, has extensive experience in the retail industry.
Since April 2009 he has held the position of Chairman of Kingfisher Plc and since January 2010, has been Chairman of the Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) Retail Group, in Dubai. In 2010 he has also been appointed Senior Advisor to the fund TowerBrook Capital Partners.
He is also President of Provestis, a member of the Advisory Board of HEC and lead director of the Board of Capgemini. Previously, Daniel Bernard was Chairman and CEO of the Carrefour Group after being a member of the Board and COO of Metro International.
As President of the HEC Foundation from 2008 to 2014, he played a key role in launching and leading HEC’s fundraising campaign of 100 million euros. He is now Honorary President of the HEC Foundation.
He has received a number of distinguished awards throughout his career including Officier de l'Ordre National du Mérite (France), Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur (France), Commandeur de l'ordre de Rio Branco (Brazil) and Grande Croix de l'Ordre du Congrès (Colombia).
He was elected Manager of the Year 1995, HEC of the Year 1996 and Strategist of the Year 2000. Also in 2000, he has been elected Best Global Retailer by the National Retail Federation of the USA.
