Biography

Marieke Huysentruyt is Associate Professor (with tenure) in Strategy and Business Policy and academic director of the Inclusive Economy Center at HEC Paris. She is also and academic affiliate at SITE, Stockholm School of Economics and at ideas42 in the US. She currently serves on EFRAG’s Working Group tasked by the European Commission with the elaboration of social standards and disclosures and on the editorial review board of the Academy of Management Discoveries. She received her PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics, a MSc in Applied Economics and Management from Cornell University and a MSc in Bioengineering from the Catholic University of Leuven.

Her research examines the social dimensions of firms. Leveraging behavioral insights, she strives to develop, test, evaluate and scale new strategies for businesses that effectively improve their social impact.  She combines original data collection and rigorous scientific research in order to offer reliable solutions for decision-makers seeking to further economic inclusion and expand economic opportunity for all.

Her work has been published in various outlets, including Management Science and American Economic Journal: Economic Policy; featured in the Economist and Stanford Social Innovation Review; and awarded grants from the European Commission, Belgian National Science Foundation (FWO), and the Strategy Research Foundation. Prior to joining HEC Paris, Marieke was co-founder and co-director of the Oksigen eco-system designed to promote and support social business innovation and social entrepreneurship (comprising i-propeller, Oksigen Lab, and the SI2 fund). She has been a faculty member at the Stockholm School of Economics and London School of Economics, and a visiting scholar at Harvard University and the Sante Fe Institute.
