HEC Paris Welcomes New Researchers and Professors
This 2018-19 academic year saw the arrival or confirmation of nine academic figures to swell the numbers HEC researchers to 118. At the September 27 Faculty Day, Dean Peter Todd and Faculty & Research Dean Jacques Olivier welcomed the academics, many of whom are known for their insightful research and topical publications.
The latest batch of professors to join the Jouy-en-Josas business school arrive with impressive track records in faculties as diverse as LSE, INSEAD, Kellogg School of Management and Syracuse University. They join six different departments in HEC, enriching the school’s rigorous academic standards as well as reinforcing its strategic prerogatives.
Marieke Huysentruyt and Georg Wernicke have been recruited into the school’s Strategy and Business Policy department. The former has built a remarkably diverse reputation in researching contemporary societal issues such as inequality and global warming. Before joining HEC, Marieke was the co-founder of the Oksigen Lab, a non-profit accelerator and research lab for soci(et)al entrepreneurship. Georg, meanwhile, focuses on corporate governance and CSR, often studying where the two intersect.
Two academics join the Information Systems and Operations Management team: Sangseok You has left his post-doctorate research fellow post at Syracuse to bring his expertise in human-computer interaction and distributed collaboration to HEC; meanwhile Ruslan Momot makes the short move from INSEAD to prolong his research in social operations and information management, as well as explorations of privacy and social platforms.
Marie Laclau reinforces the world-class Economics & Decision sciences department at HEC. She earned a PhD from HEC in 2012 and returns having gained research experience at Yale University and the Paris School of Economics. At HEC, Marie teaches game theory and social networks. Meanwhile, there are two recruits for the Finance department. Highly sought-after, the academic Bruno Biais has been scientific adviser to the NYSE, Euronext, the European Central Bank and the Bank of England. He is involved in pioneering research on the bitcoin and blockchains.
Meanwhile, Jean-Noel Barrot’s research and teaching center on entrepreneurial finance and the interactions between capital and product markets. His previous posts were at MIT and Sloan School of Management. Frédéric Godart joins the Management and Human Resources team, bringing the experience he accumulated at McKinsey & Company in Belgium and as Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior at INSEAD. His research focuses on the dynamics of creative industries, particularly in the fashion and luxury industries.
Finally, HEC welcomes Research Fellows Verena Patock, Delphine Dogot and Aurélien Feix. Verena hails from Wirschaftsuniversität Wien in the Austrian capital, where she completed her doctorate in Social and Economic Science. At present, she joins the Society & Organizations Center of HEC where her research interests will focus on sustainability, CSR, top management team diversity and cross-cultural management. Meanwhile, Delphine will bring her rich experience in Smartlaw and Legaltech to HEC’s Tax & Law Department; whilst Aurélien joins the Strategy Department and shares research he has done on topics like unpacking the narrative decontestation of CSR.
