Shirish C. Srivastava (Hi! The best paper award sponsored by the Kauffman Foundation was presented by the program co-chairs, Professors Radhika Santhanam, Walter Fernandez, and Joe Nandhakumar at a glittering awards ceremony in Hyderabad, India, on December 12.

HEC Paris is delighted to announce that Shirish C. Srivastava and Joseph Nehme have been awarded the prestigious Kauffman Best Paper Award at International Conference for Information Systems (ICIS 2023).

The ICIS Kauffman Best Paper Award is given for promising and innovative research about information systems that is relevant to practice and to the context of entrepreneurship. ICIS, organized by the Association for Information Systems (AIS), stands as the premier world conference in the discipline of Information Systems. Not only does it boast a very low acceptance rate, but the professors’ paper was selected as the best in the conference.

ICIS 2023 brought together CEOs, CIOs, and industry leaders from the top information systems firms, along with government officials involved in IT and digitization. They engaged with approximately 1000 academics from all over the world who attended the conference and shared their perspectives regarding the global information systems industry. Learn more about this year's conference here.

The professors’ paper awarded is “How 'Zerodha' Used Technology to Disrupt the Indian Stock Trading Industry?” This research outlines how "Zerodha" successfully disrupted the Indian stock trading industry using technology, by overcoming the challenges of developing a new business offering that is accessible to all, gaining trust across the community, and fostering and growing their business ecosystem.

This case-based research illustrates how an organization can enter a well-established business area and create value by rethinking the business model, treating technology as a business enabler, empowering the end user, and proactively investing in the business and community.

Based on Zerodha’s experiences, the research provides guidelines and recommendations for other businesses contemplating to enter and disrupt an established industry by leveraging technology.
