One key insight I wish I had grasped earlier is the importance of storytelling in the application process. Understanding how to effectively tell your story, showcasing your journey, challenges, and aspirations, is crucial. It's not just about listing achievements but weaving them into a coherent narrative that reflects your identity and goals."

"I wish I had realized earlier how valuable it is to connect with people who’ve been through the process. Speaking to alumni or current students gives you insights you simply can’t find on the website—whether it’s understanding the program’s culture, what the school values most in candidates, or how to stand out. Those conversations will not only help you refine your application but also give you confidence in knowing you are on the right track."

I wish I had realized earlier how much the admissions team values authenticity. What makes your application stand out is demonstrating your passion for sustainability and your commitment to creating positive change. Additionally, I underestimated how helpful it would be to talk to alumni or current students early in the process. Their insights gave me a clearer understanding of how I could contribute to the program and shaped the way I approached my essays and interviews.

“The interview was the toughest part for me, but assembling the required documents, like reference letters and official statements of enrollment, also proved challenging. To overcome this, I recommend organizing these essentials well in advance, even before starting your application. Early preparation can save you a lot of stress.”

“My biggest challenge was the GMAT. I felt I had a great international background and a solid name for an internship, but nonetheless, I had to prove my ability to perform academically in a standardized test. Without the GMAT, I knew it would be difficult to get an acceptance letter. The solution was to reorganize my life completely around studying for the GMAT and dedicate some months to it. Simple yet intense.”

“I prepared by reflecting on my experiences, practicing with peers, and reaching out to HEC Paris students on Unibuddy who provided valuable insights. This helped me refine my answers to be authentic and aligned with my career goals. I would recommend focusing on being genuine and demonstrating how HEC Paris aligns with your vision for the future.”

“As part of my Master’s program, we had to deliver a 10-minute presentation on a topic of our choice related to the business world or taxation. It was a challenging exercise because it required thorough knowledge of the subject - there’s nothing worse than picking a topic yourself and not mastering it! “

“Research the school thoroughly - its values, courses, clubs, and how it aligns with your personal and professional goals. The "Why HEC Paris" question isn't just for the interview - it's an opportunity to ensure the school is the right fit for you and to infuse your essays with genuine interest and purpose.”

“My biggest piece of advice is to clearly define your dream job and how the program aligns with achieving it. Be specific about what the role entails, the company or industry, the skills required, and why it excites you. This clarity will not only guide your application but also strengthen your overall case for admission.”
