Companies in the E.U. could be held liable for violations along their supply chain.
The European Commission proposed a law which would hold large companies responsible for environmental violations or human rights abuses committed by businesses in their supply chains. However, some critics point out that the final proposal is not as ambitious as the original draft. Alberto Alemanno, law professor at HEC Paris Business School, commented for The New York Times: "This outcome is the result of an unprecedented level of corporate lobbying."
