In April, the HEC UK Office organised a Learning Expedition to London for c.40 students from the Master in Data Science for Business. This trip provided the students with a unique opportunity to gain insight into the world of data science and how it is applied in the business world.

HEC Paris - Data Science for Business Study Trip in London - 2023
Vincent Fraitot, Scientific Director of the MSc Data Science for Business, HEC Paris

“This Learning Expedition has been a great opportunity to have future Data Scientists to be able to visit a wide range of companies and discuss with a lot of interesting people working in Data Science. This unique experience has been perfectly planned and organised by the brilliant team of the HEC UK office. Having a physical place in London is really a key advantage to embody the presence of alumni in a city such as London.”

Vincent Fraitot, Scientific Director of the Master in Data Science for Business

One of the highlights of the trip was a series of meetings with data scientists who are currently working in various industries. These professionals shared their experiences and insights with the students, offering valuable advice on how to succeed in the field of data science. The students were able to ask questions and engage in discussions with these experts, gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities that come with a career in data science.

We were also delighted to welcome the first group of students at the HEC UK House for two networking evenings with our HEC Paris alumni working in London in the field of data science. Through these connections, the students were able to gain valuable insights into the career paths and opportunities available to them after graduation. A big thank you to all of them for taking the time to share their experience with the students!

For our students, this trip was a great experience that offered them valuable professional opportunities: “The excellence of the companies were outstanding and I learnt a lot”, “I had some interesting discussions during the meetings at the HEC UK House”, “We overall met interesting companies and everything was well scheduled”, “Good exposure to different companies”, “Well organised and diverse program”.

Overall, the study trip to London was an enriching experience for the students enrolled in the Master in Data Science for Business. Through their visits to leading companies, meetings with data scientists, and networking with HEC alumni, the students gained a deeper understanding of the world of data science and how it is applied in the business world. These experiences will undoubtedly help to prepare them for successful careers in this exciting and rapidly growing field.

Laura Saint-lo (UK Office)

“We were very excited to welcome our first cohort of students in the HEC UK House. These students study trips are a key component of the HEC UK office missions, part of the International Affairs Department of HEC Paris. We are looking forward to welcoming these students again as young professionals in London next year and seeing them join their vibrant alumni community in London.”

Laura Saint-Lo, Deputy Director of HEC in the UK
