[PODCAST] "I'm a Detective": Kristine de Valck, in Tomorrow Is Our Business, Episode 2
In the second episode of Tomorrow Is Our Business, Kristine de Valck shows us how passion and fulfillment drive her engagement. Helping others to become their full potential and best selves, doing research and sharing knowledge that is useful to people beyond academia, enjoying curiosity-driven work: these are the forms of engagement that Kristine de Valck carries and how she intends to have impact.
Kristine de Valck is Professor of Marketing and Dean of Degree Programs at HEC Paris. When this podcast was recorded, she was Associate Dean and Director of the PhD Program.
We’ll be slipping into the shoes of a PhD student whose journey is akin to a quest of oneself. Kristine tells us about her own experience as a PhD student and how as the Director of the PhD program she helps students grow and develop their potential towards academic excellence, and encourage them to do innovative, edgy, creative and contribution-focused research. You will hear the dedication of people around her like Britta and Françoise from the HEC Paris PhD Team, who, for five years, walk alongside doctoral students, for whom such human ties are key for success. Fei, a former PhD student who is today Assistant Professor at Bentley University in the US share with us his journey.
Hearing Kristine is a lesson in life. After this episode, you may have to reconsider, in a simpler way, what truly motivates us in life. She may convince you not to want to be perfect, to try to accept that, as parents, we cannot be perfect. That even academics blessed with scientific rigor, must sometimes resign themselves to imperfection.
