S&O 2024 Purpose Day Report : The Central Role of Culture in Purpose-based Business
In collaboration with the Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation, the S&O Purpose Center is publishing The Central Role of Culture in Purpose-Based Business report, the fruit of the 2024 Purpose Day's teaching and results. Over 200 leaders from various sectors gathered to discuss actionable strategies for embedding purpose within organizations. A key takeaway? Effective governance must be complemented by a strong culture to make purpose truly transformative.
Drawing on academic research on purpose, corporate governance, and organisational behaviour, as well as on the experiences and reflections of practitioners shared during the Purpose Day organized on March 5, 2024 in Paris, this report captures some of the core insights that emerged on the importance of culture when it comes to delivering purpose intent.
SCORE² is aimed at helping executives and managers to create the environment necessary for everyone in the organisation to be aligned behind the purpose.
It is an evolution of our original SCORE model that now integrates five crucial cultural conditions:
- SAFE: Fostering psychological safety for purpose-based leadership.
- COMMITTED: Ensuring authentic commitment from all levels of management.
- ORGANIZED: Aligning organizational capabilities with purpose.
- REALIST: Setting practical, achievable objectives in line with purpose.
- EMBODIED: Leaders not just talking, but truly living the values of the organization.
This report is a must-read for any executive looking to make purpose the foundation of their strategy and operations.
