Student story
The key factor which allows this course to stand way above other similar offerings is its focus on real-life cases
If you are considering a career in finance, then Investment Banking and Corporate Finance at HEC Paris is the obvious choice of summer programs. The course starts with a basic introduction to the finance world, before delving deeper into the matter and tackling more complex subjects such as venture capital or leverage buyout.
The key factor which allows this course to stand way above other similar offerings is its focus on real-life cases. The classes are taught with a firm focus on deals which the professor has worked on personally. This makes the theory less abstract and allows students to know exactly in what context they can use their new skills and tools. Our professor always explained the rationale behind his decisions, how he came to certain conclusions, and what happens behind the closed doors of the conference room – thus providing us with valuable information which cannot be found in any textbook.
On top of the unique hands-on approach to finance, the course offers a unique opportunity to meet outstanding students from across the world and interact with leading professionals at top Europeans banks. The lectures were often supplemented with additional materials and the class ends with a group presentation which allows students to apply everything they have learned to present about a listed company.
In a word, this course has allowed me to get a better insight into the finance world as well as get prepared for interviews in the investment banking sector. I came here with a limited knowledge of corporate finance, but this course helped me discover an interest in investment banking. Moreover, Investment Banking and Corporate Finance is the perfect introduction to Mergers and Acquisitions, a more technical and in-depth course which is also offered at the HEC Paris Summer School.
