Summer Student Story
Whenever we discussed a situation on a specific continent, there was always a student from that region ready to share their perspective. This created an atmosphere full of passion, engagement, and diversity, unlike any experience I have had.
Professor Jeremy Ghez opens the Geopolitics, Globalization, and Business Strategy program with this statement: "The world is changing rapidly." We live in an ever-evolving world, which requires us to adapt and excel in every aspect of our lives. This HEC Paris summer program provided a unique and insightful introduction to this dynamic environment. Over two intensive weeks, we were invited to choose a company of interest and analyze how it navigates complex, real-life scenarios, deepening our understanding of global business strategies.
As a senior undergraduate student majoring in French Language and Literature, I am currently a 9th-week intern at HSBC FinTech Strategic Digital Operation, following a six-month stint at Deloitte Consulting in the Strategy, Risk & Transaction department. My four-year journey studying French has instilled in me a deep appreciation for French culture, society, and the advanced education system, which fuels my aspiration to pursue a Master’s program in France. Participating in this HEC Paris summer program was my way of experiencing the finest business school in Europe, and the decision to join Professor Ghez's course was a perfect step towards my goal.
The program was incredibly memorable due to its cutting-edge teaching methods and strong connections to real-world scenarios. We explored numerous current affairs and analyzed how the companies we chose adapted to and thrived in various environments. A unique aspect of the course was the active participation of students from different parts of the world. Whenever we discussed a situation on a specific continent, there was always a student from that region ready to share their perspective. This created an atmosphere full of passion, engagement, and diversity, unlike any experience I have had in university courses back home.
Beyond the classroom, I made many friends from diverse backgrounds. The HEC Summer School organized a variety of activities, such as cocktail parties, barbecues, football matches, wine and cheese tastings, and even opportunities to watch Europa League matches. In just two weeks, I connected with peers from different programs, discussing our ambitions, future plans, and exchanging contact information. These experiences, combined with the academic rigor of the 12-day program, made my time at HEC Paris both enriching and unforgettable.
Upon returning to my country after a 12-hour flight and sitting in the HSBC office again, I had a much deeper understanding of the company's strategies and adaptations. It has been a transformative experience for me, and I am genuinely grateful for the knowledge, friendships, valuable insights and cherished memories I have gained here that will guide me in my future endeavors.
