NOUR CHAMSEDDINE
The support students get in their endeavors to find the position that best fits their interests and skills is incredible.
Before coming to HEC, I completed two bachelors, one in Civil Engineering and one in Economics, at the American University of Beirut. At the same time, I gained some experience through internships; one was in construction engineering, one at the World Bank, and one as an economic consulting intern within a design firm, combining both my academic trainings.
Having enjoyed learning Economics so much, I felt I needed to go deeper in the subject. I also wanted a program that would give me exposure to the professional world quickly, in under a year, and would give me management and leadership skills. Studying in France had always been a dream for me, especially at such a renowned school. The MFE program at HEC was a perfect fit.
Enriching Courses
The courses I was able to take were varied and enriching. Each student, by choosing the electives she/he wishes, can tailor her/his own journey at HEC and make the most of it. I personally mostly enjoyed the Economics and the Strategy related courses, while others went in a more financial direction. I think that is the beauty of the MFE program, as it really allows graduates to choose any career path from consulting to investment banking, from working in the industry to more economic policy and development jobs.
Invaluable Career Advice
The support students get in their endeavors to find the position that best fits their interests and skills is incredible. Everyone from career center counselors to professors, a lot of whom are active professionals in different industries, is eager to help. I had a very fruitful conversation with one of the career counselors which helped me pin down what I want and come up with a game plan. I discovered the firm I will be an intern for after graduation, Capgemini Consulting, and got the opportunity to interview with them thanks to the HEC Consulting Forum. That forum is only one of many career events held throughout the year, both on and off campus.
A Long-lasting Experience beyond the Classroom
As anyone who has studied at HEC Paris would probably say, the experience at this school goes much beyond the classroom. I learned so much more than pure academic information; I went to conferences with fascinating people (researchers, politicians…), I profited from my professors’ vast experience and I got to network with a wide array of people from different parts of the business world. Above all, however, I was lucky enough to meet my peers, the people who followed the same program, that each came from a different part of the world and a different background. They taught me a lot and I made some great friends at HEC, which I know will stay in my life for a long time after we have left the campus.
Having been a student of the MFE program, at HEC Paris, I have become part of this community for good, as an alumna soon. The support we get here continues, no matter where we end up in the future, and that is something we will always be able to count on.
