CARMEN STROHM
We had the chance to solve real-time cases from big companies such as Ubisoft and L’Oréal and pitch them in front of the top management
After finishing high-school in Germany, I decided to pursue my Bachelor’s in General Management at European Business School in Germany. In my fourth semester, I had the chance to study abroad at Griffith University in Australia. During my studies, I discovered my strong interest in the field of Marketing, however I had not yet worked in Marketing. My internships were gathered around the fields of consulting at Deloitte and sales at a German fashion retailer, where I gained valuable practical experiences. After graduation I interned at L’Oréal in the Marketing division for 10 months during which I was reinsured that I would like to follow a career in Marketing, starting with a MSc in Marketing at the best business school in France.
Making the right choice
Out of all the different Marketing programs I have looked at, the HEC program was the one that appealed to me the most through its digital focus, its focus on case studies and lastly the unique possibility to take a certificate at the end of the course on a topic that complements the master. After being a part of this Master in Marketing, I can say that I made the right choice.
A focus on Marketing in a digital world
The program effectively prepared us for the challenges that companies face today with a special focus on digitalization. From the beginning we had the chance to solve real-time cases from big companies such as Ubisoft and L’Oréal and pitch them in front of the top management. In addition to practical cases, we had a variety of courses concerning the different angles of marketing. Throughout my studies at HEC I acquired valuable knowledge that will be helpful during my future career. This does not only include the specific master, but HEC as a university itself. HEC offered a variety of networking events, where I met inspiring people from various industries.
Incredible experiences
The highlight of the master program for me, was our case trip to Bordeaux at the end of the year. The case trip was a great opportunity to gain insights of the wine industry and put in practice what we have learned during the year. We did a case study with Château Gruaud-Larose, who in return invited us to experience the wine sector through tours of their vineyards and wine tasting courses.
After all, I can only recommend any passionate marketer to take part in this specific program that prepares its students for the challenges of the digital world, connect them to the companies they would like to work for in the future and lastly, brings students together with inspiring personalities and their future friends.
After finishing my studies at HEC Paris, I will start working as a Junior Product Manager at the French company L’Oréal in Germany in the Marketing Division.
