"Purposeful Governance" - The New HEC Mazars Chair at the Purpose Center

Extra-financial reporting, ESG indicators, extra-financial performance, responsible leadership: these are the themes of the new Mazars and HEC Paris "Purposeful Governance" Chair, supported by the Purpose Center (S&O).

Signature de la collaboration entre Mazars et Hec Paris

Mazars and HEC Paris join forces to create the "Purposeful Governance" Chair. This initiative is in line with the S&O Institute's mandate to contribute to the emergence of an economy capable of responding to ecological and social challenges. In particular, it will explore ways of transforming business in the areas of governance and accounting.

This collaboration marks the first corporate Chair to be hosted by the Institute's Purpose Center. Headed by Luc Paugam, Associate Professor of Accounting and Management Control at HEC Paris, this new "Purposeful Governance" Chair will enrich the work of the latter, which has historically focused on the issue of transformation through leadership ("purposeful leadership"), and will also be dedicated to the subject of governance, consulting and multi-capital accounting.

"This new Chair stands out with its ambitions to redefine corporate governance, measure non-financial impact, and new approaches focused on societal responsibility. It aims to engage diverse stakeholders, from researchers to professionals, in the quest for enlightened and socially responsible corporate leadership, marking an important step towards a more sustainable future" explained Luc Paugam, at the signing of the Chair on September 8 in Paris, marking a three-year collaboration with the international consulting firm Mazars and a significant milestone for HEC Paris and the Purpose Centre of the Society & Organizations Institute (S&O).

The Purposeful Governance Chair is committed to redefining how companies approach their corporate social responsibility. This initiative seeks to explore corporate governance from an innovative angle. It will produce a case study on multi-capital accounting, and research articles on ESG reporting and performance indicators.

It is also synonymous with academic advances: starting this year, the new "Strategy for Impact" Certificate will aim to equip students with the tools to rethink the business model and generate a positive impact - be they legal, strategic, financial, accounting, human or governance-related.
