Editorial Discretion in Journal Peer Review
The objective evaluation of academic articles through peer review is central to the advancement of science. Yet, reviewers frequently disagree with each other about what constitutes good research and peer review outcomes are hence considerably random. Journal editors have discretion over the final editorial decision and can remediate reviewers’ disagreements. We study whether editorial discretion improves peer review outcomes.
