HEC’s MiM Consolidates its Pre-eminence in Global Rankings

The 2022 Master in Management world rankings published today by the Financial Times  showed HEC Paris reinforcing its second place with a strong overall performance, particularly in alumni career development as well as in the student and faculty diversity categories.

“We are delighted by this year’s ranking which reflects the quality of our graduates.” The HEC Dean of Pre-experience Programs, Yann Algan, responded warmly to the news of the latest FT ranking, showing once again, HEC’s all-round ability to prepare its students for the current disruptions the international community is experiencing. “The ranking also validates our mission and values which aim to educate a new generation of young minds, able to find responsible and propose innovative solutions to the challenges faced by organizations and society at large.” Algan is well placed to ascertain the need to adapt MiM graduates to these challenges: as a member of the OECD High Level Expert Group on Well-being, he is often called upon to advise national and international bodies on how graduates can assume the role of trust and its impact on economic growth, institutions, management and organizations.

Brice Rabourdin also reflected the general satisfaction of all the stakeholders. The school’s Executive Director of Strategy and Development, Rabourdin insisted on the collective effort behind the latest FT classification: “This ranking reflects the school’s continuous efforts and investments from all key contributors at HEC: recruitment and admissions teams, faculty, research, the career center…”

The FT MiM ranking has 16 criteria, combining responses from alumni with detailed school data. Current salary and salary increase of alumni have the highest weighting. In the latter, HEC ranks first among the Top 10, with a 77% increase in salary between alumni’s first MiM-level job after completion and their current pay, three years after completion. This year, the school also made significant progress in the categories of female faculty and students and international faculty and students.

MiM Graduates Already Taking the High Road

Arguably HEC’s most illustrious MiM alumna features in the same FT pages, dated September 5, for very different reasons. Anne-Fleur Goll shot to international fame after her graduation speech last June in which she made an impassioned speech to tackle climate change. The co-founder of HEC’s climate transition campaign group “received a standing ovation from the hall of more than 1,000 graduates,” notes the same British daily in a feature article entitled “What Generation Z wants from a business masters”. The ever-increasing call by students for purpose-driven jobs is also illustrated by an interview of another  MiM graduate, Margot Lebourgeois. She told the FT last week: “Now more than ever, business students are looking at companies for the impact they have, their commitment to the environment and their values.”

HEC’s MiM boasts 20 specializations and as many dual degrees allowing students to embark on thriving international careers within months of graduating. In fact, the school tops the FT Top 10 rankings in this category, with 99% of its alumni finding work within the first three months (up from 93% in 2021). “I’m looking forward to becoming better equipped and getting a deeper understanding of the management world in order to break the boundaries and achieve a successful international career,” says Sarah Grace Kouame, who is currently interning in Cameroon as part of her MiM degree.

Breaking boundaries is behind HEC’s consistently high ranking performances, according to Brice Rabourdin: “Our excellence in these tables highlights the pertinence of our teaching and our ability to anticipate the fast-changing professional world” said Rabourdin, who himself graduated from HEC in 2004. “Our pedagogy revolves around impactful innovation and a perfect balance between theory and practice, thanks to the passionate professionals who bring our students challenging business cases, hackathons, and so on.” These professionals were also lauded by Yann Algan: “We can thank a world-class faculty for the critical thinking and knowledge shared during the MiM experience. Their professionalism provides problem-solving skills in a variety of subjects ranging from AI to sustainability and an entrepreneurial mindset to have a positive impact on organizations and society.”

At present, the school’s MiM boasts students from 56 nations, with an average age of 23. “HEC was my top choice,” confides Mila Feinman who is set to graduate in May 2024 and is currently completing an internship in New York.. “It best responded to my needs. I also feel that I align with HEC’s values. But, above all, the incredible rankings of HEC helped make my choice.”

Rankings which continue to be enriched in a year that has consistently shown HEC at the top of classifications at several levels.
