Major HEC Report Spotlights Smart City Impact

In the wake of the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) in Barcelona, HEC Professor Bertrand Quélin and SASI graduate Isaac Smadja publish a key study of six award-winning smart cities across the globe. The 238-page eBook is the result of a partnership between Bouygues & HEC in the context of the school’s Smart City & the Common Good Chair.

What are cities for?

From Amsterdam and its collaborative governance model to the cutting-edge technologies of Singapore, the report dives into the sustainable programs of six leading urban centers through the prism of six main points: economy, mobility, environment, citizens, living and governance. Professor Bertrand Quélin and SASI graduate Isaac Smadja draw attention to the challenges smart cities are faced with and the creative answers they can offer:

The stakes are higher because cities are places that accommodate a large number of people, absorb many resources, consume a lot of energy, and create a great deal of pollution. But they also bring together populations who aspire to a higher quality of life and who see cities as resilient, inclusive places.
