Benjamin Therme
Summer Student Story
I developed technical skills and gained knowledge that enabled me to actively contribute to solving the challenges we encountered as a group.
As a Franco-American undergraduate student at the University of Paris Cité (majoring in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Economics), my goal is to specialize in financial markets. I was drawn to the HEC Paris Summer School and its FinTech program, which offered me much more than just an opportunity to explore the proposed curriculum. It allowed me to experience the elite culture of the French Grandes Écoles while deepening my knowledge in finance, particularly in FinTech.
Academic Enrichment:
During the program, we had the privilege of learning under the guidance of Professor Patrick Legland, whose expertise was a considerable asset in deepening our knowledge of the subjects covered. This academic environment allowed us to engage with guest speakers and share their experiences in a more meaningful way. The program was structured across multiple levels, including experts in venture capital, embedded finance, and artificial intelligence. Each of these educators, both talented and with remarkable experience, succeeded in making complex concepts accessible and understandable. They shared their experiences, their mistakes and the strategies that led them to success, while also providing us with invaluable advice for our future careers.
Human Experience:
The Summer School program at HEC Paris was particularly enriching due to the cultural diversity present, with 27 different nationalities represented in our classroom alone. This diversity created a dynamic and stimulating environment where every exchange was an opportunity to learn. Through group work, which is central to our training, I was able to collaborate with students who had different perspectives, coming from various cultural and academic backgrounds. These discussions broadened my understanding of the world. Working in such diverse groups allowed me to acquire essential skills, such as adaptability, communication, and critical thinking. I developed the ability to navigate between various work approaches and integrate innovative ideas to tackle common challenges.
This experience went beyond simple academic training; it was a true immersion in a global environment where I built deep and lasting friendships with students from around the world These bonds, born from this diversity, are probably one of the most valuable aspects of my experience at HEC Paris.
