Navigating the complex challenges of today’s world, both as a business student and in my work as an elected city councilor, requires more than just knowledge – it demands a strategic mindset and a global perspective. Recognizing this, I sought out the Geopolitics, Globalization & Business Strategy program at HEC Paris to help me gain these critical insights and skills.

This course goes beyond merely analyzing the latest global headlines. It challenges you to think critically and question your own assumptions. I clearly remember Professor Ghez at the beginning   of the program with a smile as he said, "This program is not about handing out recipes," which perfectly encapsulates its approach – it is about developing the ability to think critically, rather than just absorbing information.

A significant aspect of the program was the opportunity to apply the knowledge we gained. Through group work and interactive tasks, we were encouraged to put theory into practice, making the learning process even more impactful.

One part of the program that I found particularly valuable was the diversity of perspectives brought by the participants. It is important to note that individuals from all academic backgrounds can benefit from this program – in fact, the participants in my cohort ranged from law practitioners to nuclear physics students. Engaging with people from such diverse academic backgrounds and cultures not only brought unique insights to the discussions but also broadened my own understanding of global issues.

The academics and classroom experience were undoubtedly enriching, but what struck me most was how the learning continued outside the classroom. The conversations with peers and the vibrant environment at HEC Paris made the overall experience even more rewarding! On a personal level, some of the most memorable moments came from the social events arranged by HEC, like cocktail parties and barbecues, which fostered deeper connections with fellow students. For someone who thrives in a dynamic, international setting, these experiences added an invaluable dimension to the program.

Overall, the program has not only expanded my understanding of global dynamics but has also provided me with practical tools to apply in my professional life. As a decision-maker in the city council, the insights I have gained will help me approach challenges with a more strategic mindset and a deeper appreciation for global perspectives.
