A great mobilization from the "Generation Share" HEC Alumni Club
Since the Covid crisis, there have been many collective initiatives among HEC Paris graduates, within a given class or in one of the clubs of the Association. In just two months, the Generation Share club raised nearly €57,000 for the School's students!
As we all know, the Covid crisis has created a serious emergency for students who find themselves isolated and deprived of resources (part-time jobs, family support). At HEC, as elsewhere, students need additional support to face the future with more reassurance and focus on their studies.
Over the past year, we have seen an increase in student needs and, at the start of the 2020 academic year, there was a 20% increase in applications for grants based on social criteria. The effects of the crisis were quick to be felt.
The Generation Share club therefore put out a call for solidarity last March to boost the measures already put in place by the Foundation and the School, showing true intergenerational solidarity.
We think that our own grandchildren might experience this kind of distress, so we are not going to sit back and just wait for things to sort themselves out on their own. We want to help these students in difficulty, in the name of that HEC camaraderie we value so much, and also because our club is called “Génération Partage".
Anthony Shea (H.68) et Elisabeth Laverge (H.75)
The results have been more than positive, as the club succeeded in bringing together 139 donors and raising €56,950 for these students. This is the largest fundraising initiative at Club level, both by amount and by number of donors! Thanks to this effort, 34 students received assistance of €1,590 each, which is the equivalent of 2 months of living expenses (rent + food expenses).
The Foundation is extremely grateful and thanks all the donors, and in particular the co-chairs of Génération Share, Elisabeth Laverge (Class of 75) and Anthony Shea (Class of 68), whose involvement was crucial to the success of this initiative.
