Abstract: A translation approach to queerness and disability is based on a broad view of translation which goes well beyond interlingual translation. Translation is here seen as a social and human practice. Self-translation, in particular, is an opportunity for queer and disabled people to become agents of translation and create their identity, as the protagonists of the video Crip-Lentine's Day do.

Speaker: Stefania Taviano, Associate Professor of English and Translation at the University of Messina since 2002. Stefania has written on the spread of English as a Lingua Franca and its impact on professional translation and interpreting (Translating English as a Lingua Franca, Mondadori Education, 2010), the role of translation in diasporic Hip Hop and art activism, and more recently on translation and migration, and a translation approach to disability. She is a professional translator and interpreter. She is a member of IATIS Executive Council and of Intralinea's International Advisory Board.
