Summer Student Story
The professor’s guidance not only prepares students for their professional careers but also serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining passion and fun in all endeavors.
I have always been interested in the dynamic and innovative world of finance and investment banking, and the HEC Paris Investment Banking and International Finance program gave me the opportunity to develop my curiosity. The program offers deep insight into what it’s like to be an Investment Banker and gives you an edge in solving complex problems that are in the day-to-day life of a financier.
This program provides hands-on experience of real-life cases, and each case is unique with its own problems that need to be solved, showing you what it’s like to work on a deal or a valuation. Though the focus on the cases is one thing, the best part is what gets discussed, shared and learned in class. Patrick Legland, the professor, has a very rich experience in investment banking and shares insights that are not in any textbook, nor in your own corporate finance class at your home university. His guidance not only prepares students for their professional careers but also serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining passion and fun in all endeavors.
Drawing from my experiences as a former ice hockey player, I have developed skills that I apply in every aspect of my life. I have learned how to be disciplined in pursuing my goals, work effectively with others in a team, and communicate clearly and respectfully with different people. These skills have helped me in the past and will help me in my academic and professional endeavors in the future. Attending this program allowed me to put these skills to good use and develop other analytical and problem-solving skills that will undoubtedly provide value in the near future. Moreover, this program allowed me to form long-lasting relationships with like-minded people that come from diverse backgrounds and share the same passions and interests.
If you have the opportunity to attend this program, I highly recommend you do so. The experiences, stories, insights, and tips that you gain in this program are unique. Aside from the knowledge acquired, one of the biggest assets is the relationships that you develop with a very diverse group of peers that have the same interests as you; it’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
