KIP is HEC Paris’ online student publication, available in both French (kipthinking.com) and English.

Our goal

  • We write articles about topics related to politics, economics, culture, society and even travel. We are advocates for pluralism and freedom of speech, thus our website showcases a range of strong opinions. Some members of the club are regular contributors, but we also welcome contributions from students who are not official members.
  • We translate some of our articles into English.
  • We illustrate articles with our own drawings, designs etc. Everything is homemade!
  • We shoot and edit videos: mainly news reports, but also a regular program called The Big Mic, in which we ask HEC students about their opinions on a specific topic.
  • We interview experts, politicians, CEOs, managers and ordinary citizens. That goes from the CEO of Deezer France to Donald Trump’s former Director of Communication and the creator of the Totally Spies TV show.
  • We also cover important events. Since September 2018, we’ve been to the Geopolitics Festival in Nantes, the Paris Comic-Con, the Paris Games Week, the Université d’été du MEDEF, the Lights Festival in Lyon…

Key Events

  • We organize at least one event per week, usually interviews or group outings to the Paris city centre. They are open to our members, our partners and, sometimes, the whole HEC community.
  • Twice a month or so, we visit the headquarters of a famous French (or foreign) media. In 2018, we visited Le Figaro, The Los Angeles Times, France Télévisions, INA and Elephant Productions among others. We make the most of these visits to meet professional journalists: in the past, we have spoken with Christophe Barbier (BFMTV) and Audrey Pulvar.
  • We also spend several weekends a year in a French town. These provide opportunities for team building, filming reports and writing articles about our visits.
  • Finally, we organize a conference on campus once a year. Last year, we invited Christophe Deloire, the General Secretary of Reporters without Borders, to talk about freedom of speech in the media.

Why join?

KIP is the perfect fit for you if…

  • You like writing, doing research and sharing your opinion.
  • You have a creative mind-set and can contribute to illustrations or videos.
  • You are interested in the media industry: more often than not, our members are keen to work in media after graduation. However, this does not constitute a necessary entry requirement.
  • You want to meet inspiring people every week and discover places you would not otherwise visit.
  • You would like to be involved in a student society with an international outlook: members communicate in English and it’s a great opportunity to make friends from all over the world – and to practise your translation skills.

In conclusion, you will get to improve your skills in writing, communication, filmmaking, networking and even coding.

Committee and members

KIP unites 45 students from all over the world. All are welcome so long as they can speak English!

Here is a breakdown for this year’s committee:

  • President, founder and head of videos & illustrations: Hugo SALLÉ
  • Vice-President and editor-in-chief: Yann SASSI
  • General Secretaries: Aude GUEZ and Angélique SORBA
  • Head of off-campus events & interviews: Lukas HUBERTY and Alexandre SUERTEGARAY
  • Head of on-campus events: Clémence PFISTER and Chloé BERTRAND
  • Treasurers: Charles CROS and Loïc CANTIN

Our story

In October 2017, French students in their third undergraduate year founded KIP and later launched its website in December. There was no student publication at HEC beforehand and our ‘’founding fathers’’ believed there should be a platform where everyone on campus could say what they wanted. KIP quickly became a way to unite the HEC community, gathering a range of nationalities, backgrounds and views. This year, for the first time, we recruited new members directly from the student body and our main objective is to grow and improve our video department. We also recently won the award for best online student media in France (http://kipthinking.com/kip-laureat-kaleidoscoop/) which we are immensely happy about!
