Annual London Finance Study Trip

Students from the Master in International Finance (MIF) and Master in Economics and Finance (MEF) kicked off their year with a Study Trip to London! During their time in the city, these students had the unique opportunity to interact with established companies and engage with accomplished alumni, creating an enriching and comprehensive learning experience.

HEC Paris UK Office - MIF MEF UK Study trip
Evren Örs

"As a first step into their Master in International Finance and Finance Major of the Master in Management, our students spent four days in London visiting prominent financial institutions. The resulting interactions not only helped them better understand the workings of financial services firms, but also the possibility to ask questions about various challenges facing the different parts of the industry. We are delighted that our young scholars of finance were given the opportunity to listen to the captains of industry and get their perspectives about the professional world they are about to enter. We wholeheartedly thank all the firms that made this week a very enriching experience for our students.”

Evren Örs, Director of the Master in International Finance

Ai-Ting Goh

“The students of major and master in economics and finance spent three days visiting prominent financial institutions and economic consulting companies. They gained lots of valuable insights from top professionals in the field. In particular, what it takes to build a successful career in the domain they aspire to enter. They also got the opportunity to discover new job functions, company culture and most importantly all the people they would most like to learn from or work with in the future.”

Ai-Ting Goh, Director of the Master in Economics and Finance

During this trip, over 300 students had the opportunity to meet over 45 prestigious companies during 4 very intensive days. Students had the chance to step into the actual environments of investment banking, sales & trading and asset management, gaining practical insights into how these sectors operate on a day-to-day basis.

One of the trip's highlights was the opportunity to network with HEC alumni who have established successful careers in the finance industry. These interactions offered a unique chance to gain advice, insights, and even potential mentorship from those who were once in their shoes. Over 90 HEC Paris alumni working in finance attended one of the three networking evenings – a big thank you to all of them for their time and precious advice to the students. Jing Liang, one of our alumni, said: “Felt warm and welcomed when I stepped into the HEC UK House and was happy to see familiar faces. The MIF students I engaged with were professional, curious, and thoughtful – many of them are still exploring different career choices which reminded me of when I was a fresh grad and that I was in the same shoes as them just a year ago. Glad to have a second home in London post-Jouy and grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with my classmates and meet the new Jovasiens!”.

HEC Paris UK Office - MIF MEF London Study trip

This annual flagship event reinforces the link between financial institutions based in London and HEC Paris and boosts their attractivity as employer to future HEC Paris graduates – it is a key step in our students’ journey to finance.

The students highly rated their trip, with an average satisfaction rate of over 90%! This trip was a great experience that offered the students interesting perspectives about a career in finance: “One of the best trips I have done! Thank you so much for this experience, I've met really nice people and discovered a magnificent city and various companies!”, “Engaging and insightful”, “Eye opening”.

Companies and financial institutions also highly appreciated the experience: 100% of the companies who responded to the feedback would like to be part of the event next year!

Laura Saint-lo (UK Office)

"The finance study trip is always a great way to start the academic year. Our aim is to give students the opportunity to understand the cultures of the companies they are keen to work for, but also broaden their career perspectives in financial services.  We would also like to thank all our alumni and the companies who hosted us this week and enabled it to be, once again, a very successful study trip. We are looking forward to welcoming our students back in London next year should it be for their internships or full-time jobs!”

Laura Saint-Lo, Deputy Director of HEC in the UK
